How to pick the perfect artificial Christmas tree

Have you chosen your Christmas tree for 2019 yet? There are so many considerations, so here’s a handy guide to pick the perfect tree.

It can be confusing and overwhelming at first, but Christmas Tree World is here to help guide you through a key and exciting décor decision this festive season.

Read on to find out the questions and answers you need to consider when buying a realistic Christmas tree this Christmas…

What size Christmas tree should I buy?

Before you choose your artificial Christmas tree, you need to measure the location where you’ll position it – the height, width and depth of the space.

Maybe you’re using the same room each year, but most of all, you want the tree to be the centre of attention or occupying a corner of a room. If you want a tall artificial Christmas tree, remember to leave at least half a foot to the ceiling so you can fit your topper - an angel, a star or whatever your chosen centrepiece.

Example: If you have a standard 8 - 9 ft ceiling, you should go no higher than a 7½ or 8ft tree

You’ll also need to allow for space around the tree, so it’s not squashed or pressed-up against the walls or your furniture. We stock indoor artificial trees that range up to 14 foot artificial Christmas trees for standard interior rooms, with select models going higher.

If you’re limited in floor space, not to worry, half Christmas trees are just as magical as full artificial trees but save on valuable space.

If you’re thinking outside of the box and want to go more contemporary at Christmas, black Christmas trees and white Christmas trees are an excellent way of making a creative statement. These are ideal for monochromatic Christmas themes, or for completing a midnight winter wonderland effect.

Although they are primarily to save on space, slim Christmas trees are an on-trend and a stylish artificial tree for your home. They can allow efficient use of Christmas decorations, so, if you go overboard, you can pick your favourites and leave the main room less cluttered.

What are the different types of artificial Christmas trees?

Should I buy a pre-lit or unlit artificial tree?

If an artificial tree removes the hassle of a real tree, a pre-lit Christmas tree takes it one step further. Here, there are no lights to string as part of the decorating process, which can be very time-consuming.

Pre-lit trees find that balance between convenience, safety, and energy efficiency with their Christmas lights. You also won’t have to worry about a light cable stretched to the maximum as a hazard.

If putting lights on the tree is part of the Christmas experience you enjoy, an unlit Christmas tree is for you! Lower in price, due to LEDs not being built into the tree, unlit trees allow you to create a wonderful display in your home and have more creativity by blending different lights with the tree.

What is the difference between a PE and PVC Christmas tree?

Artificial Christmas trees are a straightforward purchase (you pick your favourite style and put it up), but sometimes it’s good to know what the small print means.

For years, PVC - polyvinyl chloride - has been the go-to material for artificial trees to create realistic tree needles. Though they are as bushy as the real thing and are still very popular in place of an organic tree, PVC trees aren’t quite as accurate as PE trees.

PE - Polyethylene - creates a much more accurate-looking tree and needles. PE trees are injection-moulded to create 3D branches from real trees. This results in an instantly realistic-looking artificial Christmas tree. Therefore, the more PE you have, the more organic a tree looks.

You can blend PE and PVC together to create a stunning hybrid tree that’s also budget-friendly. The PE is used on the branch tips for realism, while PVC is used as a filler closer to the base to make the tree look thicker and fuller.

If you follow these steps, you’ll find the perfect artificial Christmas tree for your home this year that successfully combines size, style and budget.
