The Guide to Artificial Christmas Trees in Schools

Nothing signals the coming end to a school term than a Christmas tree, and we understand that you want to choose the right one, within budget.
They could be for your school hall or foyer or even dotted around campus. Whichever it is, you want your tree to set the tone, be beautiful, and cost-effective. However, there are important factors to consider, in particular, why a real tree can be a poor choice.
Whether it is primary, secondary or universities, we are seeing both an increase in numbers and the heights of artificial Christmas trees ordered by educational organisations, with these figures growing each year.
Read on to find out more about why artificial trees are proving so popular with schools, and which is the best to buy…
Why are more schools ordering artificial Christmas trees?
While we can understand schools placing orders for some of our realistic Christmas trees, what we cannot explain is why the average sizes ordered are going up each year.
It is not as if the schools are getting any higher in ceiling height, nor is it likely that they are trying to compete with a neighbouring school to find out which has the tallest Christmas tree.

One theory that has been suggested is that the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) committees are having greater success with fundraising activities and simply choosing to purchase a spectacular looking Christmas tree for all to enjoy during December.
Some of the feedback we’ve received says that artificial trees are cleaner and much easier to put up than real trees. There’s much less hassle, which can be of huge benefit to a school, especially if students are passing through the area where a tree will go.
What are the benefits of an artificial Christmas tree to a school?
We know that schools and universities each have their own budget and requirements, and this is the immense benefit of an artificial Christmas tree - you can tailor it.

You can choose the shape of a Christmas tree to fit every space. We stock shapes that include full, compact, slim Christmas tree or for very tight areas, half Christmas tree or pencil-shaped trees. Each one can be designed, with accompanying decorations, to bring festive joy to any part of your school.
All of our Christmas trees are easy to erect with minimal fuss. They’re also clean, unlike a real Christmas tree, which can drop needles over the floor, damage door frames when being moved into place, and leave moisture on carpets.
Are there health concerns from using a real Christmas tree?
There have been reports of health issues being caused by real Christmas trees. Of course, the highest priority of any educational institute is student well-being.
“Christmas tree syndrome” is one such health risk and a potential reason for schools purchasing more artificial Christmas trees. Allergies to the scent of a real tree, or the spores given-off by them, are proving an increased issue, producing symptoms similar to hay fever in the middle of winter.
These spores can also set-off Asthma sufferers, as real Christmas trees can be a host for mould. Introducing the tree into your warm, heated building means that mould spores can spread much quicker - increasing the chance of an Asthma attack.
Which artificial tree is best for a school or university?
We have a range of trees to fit every need, these can be giant commercial Christmas trees or smaller, fibre optic Christmas trees for various rooms and departments.

Our Woodland Pine Tree is a favourite with schools and universities that are based in older buildings. This is due to it not only being realistic-looking and extremely bushy but looks so impressive in some of the older corridors and school hall.
Individual classrooms having their own tree is becoming more popular each year, and those who store theirs carefully will be able to enjoy it, year after year. Smaller-scale trees, such as small fibre optic Christmas trees, which don’t need decorating, are excellent for these spaces.
